Sealants are usually applied to children’s permanent teeth as a preventative measure, as soon as possible after all teeth come through the gums. Dr. Duca will recommend sealants on a case-by-case basis.
Sealants generally stay in place for a longtime however they need to be checked on a routine basis. It is fairly common to see adults with sealants still intact from their childhood. A dental sealant, however, only provides protection when it is fully intact so if your sealant comes off please contact Dr. Duca.
